Unit 1 Assignment

For this assignment, please answer the following questions:

1. Two vectors A and B have the same magnitude of 100 N (they represent forces of equal strength).
a. What is the magnitude of the resultant vector of A and B if they are parallel and pointing in opposite
directions?
b. What is the magnitude of the resultant vector of A and B if they are parallel and pointing in the
same direction?
c. If A and B are at right angles, is the magnitude of their resultant vector less than 100 N, exactly 100
N, or more than 100 N?
2. Explain conservation of momentum. Give an example on where it can be applied
3. Which Newton’s law involves acceleration? Explain.
4. Why is speed considered a scalar and velocity a vector?
5. If you place a box on an inclined plane, it gains momentum as it slides down. What is responsible for this
increase in momentum?
6. Explain how to determine the velocity v and the distance traveled d of an object after 10 seconds in a free
fall.
