Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Thread, Fastener & Spring

1. Lab Objectives
a) To produce the drawing of an object with correct dimensioning rules
b) To produce the different types of drawing for threads, fasteners and springs

2. Lab Tasks
Step 1: Follow lab demonstration to produce and complete the drawing below according to
the dimensioning rules.

Step 2: Follow lab demonstration to produce a drawing of the following types of threads:

a) UN/UNR Threads
 b) Square Threads

c) Acme Threads

d) Schematic Thread Symbol

Step 3: Follow lab demonstration to produce a drawing of the following types of springs:

a) Compression spring
 b) Extension spring

3. Lab Assignment
Based on your lab exercises, produce the following drawings with appropriate
dimensioning:
a) Produce three-view drawing for the following objects and dimension them.

b) Draw a detailed representation of a 1.85 – 10UNC – 2A thread

c) Draw a detailed representation of M24 x 3 thread.

d) Draw a double-line drawing of an extension spring with 10 active coils. Its wire
diameter and total length are 0.5 in and 5 in, respectively. The radius of its ends is 0.5 in.
Total Mark – 20 (P09, PO14)

Submit your drawings (to be prepared in appropriate format) during class on 16/3/2011.
Late submission will be subject to a penalty in your marks.
