Jim is a seven-year-old first grader at Wicoff Elementary School in Plainsborough

New Jersey. He lives in Hunters Glen New Jersey with his mother, father and younger

sister. Jim enjoys living at home and doesn’t have many chores except to clean his room

when his younger sister makes a mess with his toys. He enjoys playing with his scooter

on a normal basis and also enjoys reading at home. Jim enjoys reading at least two books

everyday, he is a strong reader and the last book he read was The Elves and the Shoe

Maker, which he got from his school library. Jim prefers to read alone and his parents

don’t read him books at night, but they do tell him stories which Jim enjoys hearing. He

says the stories are funny and very exciting to listen to, he gets told stories every night by

his father.

On a normal night Jim goes to sleep at nine o’clock, except on special nights

when he goes to the movies with his parents or there’s a party, in which case he’ll go to

sleep a little later. Jim enjoys watching TV and does so about two hours a day, even

though he does not have a TV in his room, his favorite show is Ben 10 which he watches

on demand. Ben 10 is a TV show about a boy who can battle aliens with the help of his

magical watch that he wears around his wrist. In addition to watching TV, Jim loves to

hang out with his friends in his spare time. Jim enjoys playing tag, freeze tag, hide and

go seek tag because he’s a very fast runner and he always wins. Jim doesn’t have any

pets but when he saves up some money he will be getting a cat, he also collects cool

things to put on his desk like tiny action figures and action figure weapons to play with.
When Jim makes a new friend it is important that his friends remember his name above

anything else.

Jim has a lot of friends at school and in his first grade class, his favorite subject is

math because he is very good at math, he can even add 116 to 116! In school, Jim reads

in between lesson and on down time and he prefers to read alone rather then with others.

Jim would describe himself as a good reader and can even spell the word dinosaur and

according to Jim, a good reader is a person who tries to figure out a word they don’t

know instead of skipping it and continuing to read. If Jim could pick one book to read, it

would be a book about danger because he enjoys reading about the characters in

suspenseful situations and working together to achieve a goal as they overcome obstacles.

Jim loves to write, he writes a lot and his favorite thing to write about is karate

because he’s been taking karate for two years and is very good at it. In school, his

teacher, Mrs. Miller is very helpful when he struggles with drawing a picture because

sometimes he doesn’t know what to draw. Another teacher who comes in and out of the

classroom to help the students helps Jim with writing when he is having a hard time

spelling a word or finding a topic to write about. When Jim is home, his favorite place to

study is his comfy couch in the living room because it’s quiet and comfortable. Jim also

does homework in the living room by himself, and when he is all done, he has his mother

check it for him, but he usually gets all the answers right. The last book Jim read for

school was called, When Grandma Almost Fell Off The Mountain, which is a danger

book! When Jim helps his peers try to read a difficult word, he encourages them to

stretch the word out and sound out each letter. Jim is an energetic child who loves
school, math, reading, writing, and karate. He helps his friends when they struggle in

class and is an active participant in the classroom.
