Double lines of palms celebrate Auckland’s waterfront promenade,
linking the Viaduct Basin to Tamaki Drive.
10. CUSTOM STREET LOOKING WEST FROM BRITOMART PLACE.
Palms and the refurbished Wharf Police Station mark the entry
to our downtown water front precinct.
11. COMMERCE STREET LOOKING SOUTH FROM CUSTOM STREET
Soft tree lined streets stretch to Fort Street connecting the trans-
port village to the surrounding city fabric.
12. EVENING LOOKING WEST ALONG TYLER STREET
The new police station in the refurbished Wharf Police building,
which is architecturally light to enhance the character and atmos-
phere of the area.
18. A WARM SUMMER’S NIGHT IN GORE STREET SQUARE.
The Transport Pavilion is a light elegant single storey set in front of
the Union Steamship building to ensure views of this great old
building remain.
14. LOOKING EAST TO GORE STREET SQUARE AND GALWAY STREET
The buildings are set back to allow views of the surrounding
heritage buildings and create a sunny protected urban square.
15. GALWAY STREET LOOKING WEST FROM BRITOMART PLACE.
Cafes, Bars and the Cinema Complex bring people and activity to
the streets.
16. NIGHT-TIME ON GALWAY STREET, LOOKING WEST FROM
BRITOMART PLACE.
17. TA HUHU STREET LOOKING EAST FROM COMMERCE STREET.
This car free walking street links the site east to west, providing
locations for recreation and retail. It has proportions similar to
Vulcan Lane and the quality paving sets the tone for a series of
new well designed buildings.
19. LOOKING EAST ALONG TYLER STREET.
An evening stroll along gently lit streets, in the safe view of
passers by and the residential apartments above.
20. TA HUHU MARKET PLAZA
This plaza provides a forecourt to Auckland Central and an
outdoor room for the city to use. Performances, markets,
festivals and celebrations all transform this place at different
times of the day and year.
21. GALWAY STREET LOOKING EAST FROM COMMERCE STREET.
Quality design and materials, combined with humanly scaled
buildings, a richness of textures and proportions, and care-
fully chosen street furniture create interesting and desirable
people places.
