Introducing Malaysia 「マレーシアを知る集い」

「マレーシアを知る集い」, an event to promote and introduce Malaysia to the neighborhood of


Sakuragaoka, was organized by Sakuragaoka Community Centre, and was supported by Tourism
Malaysia, Japan Malaysia Association, and Malaysia Students’ Association in Japan (MSAJ). The
event was participated by 70 over person, mostly residence in Sakuragaoka area.

The event started off with a keynote speech from the organizers, followed by an one hour
introduction speech of Malaysia by Mr Tokunaga from Tourism Malaysia. Mr Arai from Japan
Malaysia Association brought the audience closer to understanding Malaysia by making a further
speech and leading Malaysia traditional dance performance. Later, Mr ‘Awadh Asyraf and Mr Lai
Chai Ei, president and vice president of MSAJ respectively made a short greeting speech to the
crowd before presenting Mr Tan Tun Jie and Miss Tang Chye Sin of MSAJ, to present a short speech
about their life in Japan. The crowd was captivated listening to confession and opinions from a
foreign student.

MSAJ contributed and demonstrated the making of murtabak to the crowd, led by Mr Nasruddin
Nasir and his team, during the food party. The crowd was delighted to taste, and at the same time,
experience the making of murtabak. The organizers prepared sate, bubur caca, and curry rice in
addition to our murtabak. The event ended in 4 hours, and was a successful one judging from happy
and eager faces of participants.

This event presented MSAJ with a rare chance to collaborate with a Japanese organization in
introducing Malaysia to Japanese. It was a meaningful one and MSAJ is looking forward for more
collaborations and events of this kind in the future.
