From the new upcoming band ‘Ultralove’ to life as a solo artist, what made Hanna take the pathway
to success on her own? Hanna confesses all to Muze – and why she chose that life changing decision…

What made you decide to leave your fellow bandmates?

‘Don’t get me wrong, I love the girls to pieces. And it was a very hard decision But the band just wasn’t
for me. There all brilliant girls with such amazing talents and wonderful personalities, but I felt that I just
wasn’t progressing enough. I felt that I wasn’t achieving my best potential – and it just so happened
Nicky Graham thought this too. Nicky Graham, a music producer first introduced himself to me not long
after the girls and I released our first album together. From there on, he convinced me that Ultralove
just wasn’t for me and insisted that I entered the music industry as a solo artist; as Hanna.’

Did you have fallout with any of the band mates?

‘No. Infact, we all got on surprisingly well (apart from our tiny little bickering now and then!) – and we
still do. Obviously I’m not as close as I was when I was in the band, but I’ve spent so much time away
from them all now I’m on my own. Before that, I was used to seeing them constantly for days at a time –
non-stop.’

What was your best experience when you were with Ultralove?
‘All of it. I had an amazing time. Especially when it came to making our first ever album. I couldn’t have
thought of anyone better to do it with. Nobody will ever beat your best friends. So in a way they made
the whole experience for me. I know I’m on my own now, and some would say that I’ve been selfish to
ditch my best friends, but I’m glad that I spent my first ever ‘fame’ experience with my best friends.‘

Would you say you had the best talent out of your fellow band members?
‘No! I don’t look or see myself better than anyone else. We were all equal in the band, and I still see us
as all the same. The fact that Nicky saw something different in me doesn’t mean I have the best talent –
it just means I got lucky. I am very proud to have been given this opportunity.’

Do you think that you will you ever go back to Ultralove?

‘I’d never say never. There’s always a possibility. I would love to work with them again sometime in the
near future – after all were still all the bestest of friends. But for the time being I’m enjoying life in the
spotlight on my own, rather than sharing it with four other people.’

Now, back to you. How have you found your experience since you’ve been in the spotlight?
‘I’ve loved every minute of it. As much as I hate to admit it, I love the attention! I love being on the telly
and in magazines, as much as I hate looking at myself. I’ve got used to it now! It’s so bizarre, I mean I’ve
not even been in the music industry that long, yet it feels like such a long time – in a good way! I think
it’s because I’ve experienced two completely different sides to music in such a short period of time –
one minute I’m in a group of 5 to myself the next. It’s crazy.’

What’s good about going solo?

‘I have control in pretty much everything that I do. I have a much bigger say – 100% as opposed to only
20%. Being a songwriter, I write the songs myself. It also means I have much more involvement with
producers and musicians. On the downside, it means a hell of a lot more work!’

What about your songwriting talent we’ve heard about?

‘I have such a huge passion when it comes to writing songs. I found this passion ever since I was 12 years
old and I started writing straightaway. I love writing. I find it a great way to express my feelings and

emotions. What’s better than to pour your heart out scribbling away on a scratty old notepad hey?
[laughs] To me, I just find it as a way to relax and relieve myself. It gets rid of any anger or hatred that I
have burning up inside me!’

How would you describe your songs?

‘I would describe my music as poppy. I see the songs as cheerful and up-lifting, yet behind the words
there’s a lot more meaning.’

How have you managed to cope at such a young age?

‘I honestly don’t have the slightest idea. Although I’m young, I’m mature. I suppose I just had the self-
belief and the confidence to go for it - and succeed. I wanted it more than anything; I was prepared and
determined all in one. I guess that amount of courage and self-determination is what did it for me.’

There are so many female solo singers in the music industry. How did you manage to crack it?
‘Two words. Nicky Graham! [laughs] It must have been down to him, without him I don’t quite know
how I would have done it. He’s amazing. He’s a true inspiration who I deeply admire. He believed in me
and I couldn’t thank him more, not to mention all the advice and support he’s provided to me along the
way.’

On that note, before I go let’s talk about your future ‘hit’. How do you feel about your current album,
‘Your Love, My Desire’?
‘I feel very confident about it. My last album that I did with the girls did very well in the charts and I’m
hoping that this will do the same. I’m not expecting to reach a number 1 just yet – but give me a few
more albums and I should get there - hopefully!’

Hanna’s album, ‘Your Love, My Desire’ is due for release on April 1 st. Pre-order now on amazon.co.uk
