What is MIU??
MIU basically is a data acquisition device.
Data acquisition is the process:
a) of sampling signals that measure real
world physical conditions
b) And converting the resulting samples
into digital numeric values that can be
manipulated by a computer.
Basic Data Acquisition Setup
Where MIU is used??
As the name suggests, missile interface unit, MIU is
basically used in defense.
It is an interfacing unit between the missile and the
computer.
The system is intended to read various vehicle
parameters including the battery voltages, pressure
sensor values and various relay status.
Why MIU is needed?

MIU provides target position information and control

signals for test and launch of the missile.
Provides power for activating the missile.
Determining the status of missile.

Block Diagram Of MIU
Inputs to MIU
MIU gets 8 digital inputs.
The microcontroller unit get input from ADC which
indeed gets input from different sensors.
The sensors provide analog signals which the ADC
converts to digital.
MIU outputs
 The unit has 16 analog outputs
 And 8 digital outputs
Digital outputs are used to switch power to various
subsystems.
MIU Functionality

MIU gets input from different sensors which are

converted to digital form using ADC and then
passed to the microcontroller.
The microcontroller process the data and
transfers it to the on board computer.
All the commands for vehicle (i.e., its inclination,
power signals) functionality during flight will be
received/transmitted from main computer
