CONVERTING FROM SOLIDS – (SM4_WILDFIRE3)

Tutorial Lesson 3 – Advanced Conversion

** This next lesson will be a harder example which will cover some more advanced features used in the
conversion feature. Here is a more complicated part that has already been shelled out but is still a solid
part. The first step is to open up this part and switch it over to the sheet metal module. **

FILE menu: #Open, <box.prt>, #Open.

APPLICATIONS menu: #Sheetmetal, #Driving Surf, <select an outside surface>,

accept the default of 0.06 for thickness.

** The part should now look like the above image. Please note that since an outside surface was
selected the outside is shown with green edges. If an inside surface had been selected the inside surface
would have been green edges. **

** The first feature will be a conversion feature to create some bends and edge rips. **

INSERT menu: #Conversion…, or select , #Edge Rip, #Define, <select the edges
shown in the following image>.

** The next step is to define four rip connects that will connect these vertical edge rips together. **

Second Point

First Point

** Notice that when the end point of an edge rip is selected that dashed lines will extend out to all
available vertices to choose which rips you would like to connect. As a rule of thumb you can only
connect to other edge rips or to a vertex on the perimeter of the part. **

** Notice that once the second endpoint is selected the dashed line now only connects the two edge rips.
Continue to Add additional rip connects till your part looks like the following image. **
