Legislation in Parliament - Monsoon Session, 2010


The Monsoon session of Parliament was held between July 26 and August 31, 2010. During this session, 26 Bills
were introduced, 24 were passed (including three Appropriation Bills) and 1 Bill was withdrawn. At the end of the
session, there were 71 Bills pending in Parliament. Some important Bills passed by Parliament include the Civil
Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, 2010; the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment)
Bill, 2010 and the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Bill, 2006.

CII-DU Professional Skills Project


As part of the project, 6 months joint certification courses (which include 4 months class-room training + 2 months
internship in relevant industry) have been developed in consultation with industry and are being delivered using
advanced methodologies including case studies, interaction with domain experts, case simulation and real life hands-
on experience. Post completion of the internship, the deserving students would be assisted for placement offers with
suitable organizations. At present the following three certificate programs are being offered

Higher Education Committee


Recommendations to MHRD have been made on the National Commission for Higher Education and Research Bill,
2010 and Innovation Universities in 2010. Consultations are on for the National Accreditation Regulatory Authority for
Higher Educational Institutions Bill, 2010, The Educational Tribunal Bill, 2010 (passed in LS) and The Foreign
Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) Bill, 2010.

Prime Minister Inaugurates Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) ''''Udyami'''' Helpline
Udyami Helpline, the Call Centre of Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), was inaugurated by
the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, at a function held here today. Present on the occasion were Minister of
State Independent charge of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri Dinsha Patel, Secretary (MSME) Shri Dinesh
Rai, senior officers of the Ministry and related organisations and representatives of MSME Associations. The Call
Centre will satisfy the long felt need of a single point facility for MSMEs for a wide spectrum information and
accessibility of Banks and other MSME-related organisations.
