The anglo-saxons, they people who had a very important role at England

foundation.

Towards the end of the IV-th century, situation was different in Britain. Because
of the fragility and political problems within the empire, the province was abandoned
in time by the army and administration
To help fight off the Picts the Romanised people hired anglo-saxons as
mercenaries. In time they fought with the local population.
The anglo-saxons were devised in 3 tribes: 1.yutes (Jutland)
2. Angles (Germans)
3. Saxon (saxons)
Not much it’s known of them, or how they actually came. They were organised
in small societies (kingdoms).
By the VI-th century we a talk about 4 kinkdoms that cover most of England:
Mercia, east England -by angles
Wessex, Sussex - by saxons.
In the V-th century it’s written about King Arthur.
The roman Celtic legacy was lost in England because of the anglosaxons. Anglo-
saxons were primitive, with Germanic and scandinavien roots.Their religion thold
those to valor bravery.Their religion had no infrastructure so it was best in time; it
was not institutionalised; it was overcome by Christianity.
The anglo-saxons are an agrar organisation,an isolated organisation,in which they
provided everything from themselves.The defining traits of the english today can be
found trached back to the villages of the anglo-saxons,they prised the
individual.Where as in France the institution is given more importance over the
prison.
Christianisation of the anglo-saxons
Anglo-saxons were pegan98...First half of the V-th century, Saint Patrick
cristianised Ireland.After that in VI-th century Colonba Christianise
Scotland.Christianity penetrates Anglo-saxons by 2 ways: first was from the celtic
Christians (Ireland and Scotland).
Second was the roman church.
The provisional seat became fixed seat of Christianity in England - in
Canterbury.
Theodore to Tarsus carried out many conversions in England and made a lot of
libraries.
In the space of a few decades the anglo-saxons became the oasis of culture
.Towards the end of the dark ages (V-th, IX-th century); English bishops went to
Europe and re-established culture.
