DESCRIPTION OF A FAMOUS PHOTO

Lunch atop a Skyscraper is one of the most


famous photos in history. The image was
taken in 1932 by Charles C. Ebbets during
the construction of the RCA
Building (renamed as the GE Building in
1986) at Rockefeller Center. The
photograph depicts eleven workers eating
lunch, seated on a girder with their feet
dangling hundreds of feet above the New
York City streets.

Ebbets took this photo on 29 of September
in 1932 and it appeared in New York Herald
nd
Tribune on Sunday 2 of October. The

workers were building the 69 floor of the GE
building the last several months of
construction. The photograph Men Asleep on a Girder shows the same workers sleeping on the
beam.
