LIBERAL CANDIDATE SEEKS TO RESTORE DEMOCRACY

Kris Stewart, Liberal Candidate for Kelowna–Lake Country, hopes that initiatives like the
Vote Mob held at the Sails on Thursday afternoon will encourage Canadians to restore their
democracy.

With voter turnout in the last election at an all-time low, and voter fatigue from shortened
election cycles, Stewart says that voter apathy in Canada is creating a crisis of democracy.
“It is the duty of every citizen to take an active role in our democracy,” said Stewart. “I
confess that I want to persuade the people of Kelowna–Lake Country to vote Liberal. But
above all, I want them to vote.”

Stewart encouraged those attending the event to get engaged, get informed, and participate
in their democracy. “There are people half a world away dying for a right that too many of
us take for granted,” said Stewart. “Our democracy thrives when all Canadians take an
active role.”

After the rally, Stewart observed that the institutions of democracy in Canada are under
threat. “We have a Prime Minister who ignores government oversight, shuts down
Parliament when it holds him up to scrutiny, and dismisses rulings like the contempt
motion and campaign finance charges as mere nuisances, not as serious breaches of the
public trust.”

Stewart participated in the event along with the other candidates running to represent
Kelowna–Lake Country.
