¡Mis Vacaciones del Verano!

Objetivo

You are going to individually prepare a creative presentation describing your


summer vacation. You will include vocabulary and grammar learned in weeks 1-3
with an emphasis on the use of the preterite versus the imperfect. Furthermore,
you will need to be prepared to explain how your summer vacation differed from
that of a Spanish, Peruvian, or Ecuadorian teenager’s summer vacation. You will
draw one of the nationalities from a hat, so you must be prepared to answer all of
them. You must speak for at least one full minute. I will help you by asking trigger
questions.

Ideas para la presentación

• A journal that you may have kept throughout the summer describing various
significant events, people you met, places you travelled, etc. 5-7 one page
entries required - double spaced.

• A home video dramatizing various significant events, people you met, places
you travelled, etc. If you need to borrow a video camera, let me know as soon
as possible so we can rent one from the A.V. center in the library. The video
must be at least 4 minutes long (no more than 6).

• An internet blog you may have kept throughout the summer describing
various significant events, people you met, places you travelled, etc. 5-7
one page entries required – double spaced.

• A picture album documenting various significant events, people you met,


places you travelled, etc. You can use real pictures or paint/draw them. At
least 10 pictures required with a short paragraph (3-4 sentences)
describing each photo.

• A simulated discussion with a friend catching up after a summer apart


describing various significant events, people you met, places you travelled,
etc. Scripts may be used. The skit must be at least 4 minutes long (no
more than 6).

• Letters written back and forth throughout the summer from a distant relative
or friend describing the various significant events, people you met, places
you travelled, etc. 5-7 one page letters – double spaced.

• A project of your choice. You must run the idea past me at least a week
before the project is due.

Los requisitos
Vocabulary: At least 15 words, verbs, phrases learned in weeks 1-3. They must be
italicized for easy detection. Verbs must be conjugated correctly to receive full
points for that word.

Grammar:

- At least 8 uses of the preterite (at least 3 irregular verbs – poner, saber,
etc.)

- At least 8 uses of the imperfect

- At least 5 uses of the imperfect progressive (at least 2 irregular


progressive endings – dormir, etc.)

- All uses must be underlined. If you are conjugating a verb learned in


the past 3 weeks then you will italicize and underline it.

- They must be conjugated correctly to receive full points.

Creativity: I know we’re not all professional artists and thus I will not be grading for
artistic ability. However, I do want your project to look as if you invested a good
amount of time, effort and love into putting it together. Take a look at the finished
project and ask yourself if you are proud of your work. If your answer is yes then
you will receive full creative points. Take pride in your work!

Cultural compare and contrast question: You will choose one of the cultures we
have been discussing in class the past few weeks out of a hat. You will need to
explain the similarities and differences between your summer vacation and a typical
teenager of that culture’s summer vacation. You will be required to speak for one
whole minute. I will ask trigger questions to help you formulate answers. Try your
best to stay in the target language – using circumlocution when necessary.
