1. For each of the curves whose equations are given below:

find each stationary point and what type it is;
find the co-ordinates of the point(s) where the curve meets the x and y axes;
sketch the curve

i. y = 4x – x2
ii. y = 2 + 3x2 – x3
iii. y = x4 – 4

2. The position of a particle moving along an x-axis is given by s=3t-4t2+t3 where s is in

meter, and t is in second.

a. What is the position of the particle at t = 2s and t = 4s

b. What is the object displacement between t = 0s, and t = 4s?

c. Find the instantaneous velocity and acceleration at t = 2s?

3. A ball moves in a straight line from a fixed point O such that the displacement, s m, t
seconds after passing through O is given by s = 10 + 5t – 2t2 Find :

a. The initial velocity

b. The time t when the object is instantaneously at rest
c. The time t when the object is at O.
