generating alternative layout designs.
.Computerised layout planning can improve the
search of the layout design process by quickly
generating a large number of alternative layouts.
Computer programmes are generally of two
1)Construction programmes
successive selection and placement of activities
2)Improvement programmes
a complete existing layout is required initially and
locations of departments are interchanged to
improve the layout design.
Construction programmes:
It includes:
1. CORELAP(computerised relationship layout
planning)
2. ALDEP(automated layout design programme)
Improvement programmes:
1. CRAFT(computerised relationship allocation of
facilities technique)
. Both ALDEP and CORELAP are concerned with the
construction of a layout on the closeness ratings
given by REL(relationship) chart.
. CRAFT is concerned with the minimisation of a
linear function of the movement between
departments.
CORELAP

. It begins by calculating which of the activities in the

layout is the busiest or most related.
. The sum of each activity’s closeness relationship
with all other activities are compared and the activity
with highest closeness relationship count is selected
and located first in the layout matrix. This activity is
named Winner.
. Next ,an activity which must be close to the winner
is selected and placed as adjacent as possible to
winner. This activity is named Victor
