The Gilded Age

A New Beginning
This morning when I woke up something felt different but I don’t know what it is. It seems like things have gotten better in the world.
My dad was offered a job today and he might have a new job. He is going to work at a factory where we live in Connecticut. It

just opened and my dad is one of the people to start working there.
After my dads first day of work, I heard my mom and him talking about how everything in the world is changing for the better. The

economy is starting to become stronger and instead of farms America is starting to industrialize and have factories and railroads.
In the 1870’s to the 1880’s the economy in the U.S. has grew at its fastest rate in history with real wages, health, and capital

formation. My dad told me this morning about all this wonderful news, now I don’t have to work anymore.
Since my dad works far he has to leave the house early but since we know have railroads he can get some extra sleep. Railroads are

good because they can get you to places faster and on time.
During the gilded age the steel production surpassed the combined total of Britain, Germany, and France and the U.S. also would lead

in many other areas of technology.

When my dad had enough money he went and bought a phonograph which was created by Thomas Edison along with electricity. I

remember when nobody had electricity in there house know every one has it.
By the 1920’s there have been many great inventions like the automobile which was the most popular. There have been other cars

before this but it took to long to make it. Henry Ford who came up with the idea of an assembly line started the mass production of

cars.
Around this time many people are starting to come to the United Stated because they think they will have a better life out here. During

the gilded age there were about 10 million people who immigrated to the U.S.
My dad is having fun working at the factory but he wants to work on cars and be apart of an assembly line. So he went to try and find

a job doing that. Henry Ford was paying people more than normal and that benefited not only him but my dad. He was able to buy his

first car.
Soon people were going to start making machines that make a job easier and also you don’t have to pay a machine to do something

like you have to pay a worker. Many people were losing their jobs because of this.
During this time there were some problems with the political aspects of things.
This time in history wasn’t all good, this time is also known for its widespread in corruption in government and in business. Also there

wasn’t any good president during this time that can deal with all the changes that were happening so fast.
Many people thought that government should play a little role in businesses and let them do what they want to do. During this time

speculators in stocks and land started to make all the money.

There were many other good and bad things about this time in life but my family is doing well and my dad has a good job. Since my

dad knows so much about everything I can tell you guys what he tells me. I think that in the future everything will work out.
