College Essay

Through the journey on my life I have accomplished many things in life, though there is one
accomplishment that outweighs the rest, and that is overcoming adversity in my life. Adversity is a
condition marked by misfortune, calamity, or distress. The reason adversity is a factor in my life is
because it has been in my life since the beginning. May 18, 1993 was the day I was perceived into the
world, and on the very same day I was perceived to leave it as well. Unfortunately as born as a stone
crack baby, fortunately I had no defects, and live healthily today. Though I was born with no defects I
was born with bronchitis in my lungs and had to remain in the hospital for a long period of time before I
actually could go to the place I called home. Growing up as a kids was also another time of adversity in
my life, due to the fact my two brothers and I had to take care of ourselves , because our father worked
day in and day out, and our mother had left our family. Learning new things in schools always was a
struggle for me because I didn’t have anyone at home to help. Even with no help I managed to keep
decent grades throughout my elementary and middle school years. April 15, 2005 adversity strikes
again, my father faced a fatal heart attack and was pronounced dead when the ambulance arrived at the
scene. This alone was the greatest adversity that I have faced in my life alone. Immediately after we left
the hospital we were sent to our birth mother home. This was the last place anyone in our family would
want us to stay and live our live, due to the fact that our mother wasn’t the best parent. With my father
gone, my brothers and I had to move away from our mother’s home and move with my aunt’s house for
a safe haven. At the time this was a great hope in our eyes and though everything was going to be
smooth from then on out, but we were wrong. We later moved with my sister and this is where I
currently stay and live now. Today, I can say I have overcome the adversity that I have yet seen in my life
and am trying to better myself to make myself and my family proud.
