The growth of trade volumes

After the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (2002) and ASEAN-
China Senior Officials Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties
in the South China Sea (2004), on the graphics below we can see how the trade of each and
ensemble parties has grown.

These graphics show that the evolution rate of exportations and importations, from 2004 to
2009, is positive. Despite that the trade increases, it does not signify that the region is more pacific.
Because each parties still keep their claims, classified on three types : first, the claim of ensemble of
islands, by China, Taiwan and Vietnam; second, the claim of a part of islands, by Malaysia and
Philippines; third, the claim of economic exclusive zone (EEZ), by Indonesia and Brunei
(HURWITT, 1993, SCHOFIELD and STOREY, 2005, L!I, 1996, LO, 1989).
