Types of Internet Network Connection

Today, information technology becomes more popular, specially internet. Internet,

which was made by Department of Defense United States of America, has been existing since
1969. In the beginning, internet was used for US military necessary to make data transfering
easier. However in the next decades, the demand for internet network increased significantly,
not for military needs only, but also for education, business, and office needs. Nowdays, it
can be found in people’s gadget such as smartphone, PDA, laptop, PC tablet, etc. Internet
works if there is a such network connection that one computer can be linked with other
computers. There are some types of computer network connection that people usually use,
and three famous types are explained below.

First type of computer network connection is Local Area Network (LAN). LAN
connect computers in short distance. LAN is usually used in a building, connect computers in
a room to another room. Now, almost every office is already installed LAN, the purpose is to
make a worker easier in getting data from the other workers in other rooms.

The next type is Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). MAN is network connection that
can spans throughout all areas in a city. The example for MAN connection is Automatic
Teller Machine (ATM) that connected to bank. When we do the transaction at ATM, the data
is automatically sent to the bank pass through MAN. It also can be used in cable television.

The last type of computer network is Wide Area Network (WAN). This network
connection covers broad area, not only throughout the city, but it cross national boundaries.
With WAN, we can get the information globally at the real time. Compared with LAN and
MAN, this network connection is most often used. Simple example is when we find some
article on Google, we use a Wide Area Network connection.

Different span of internet needs different type of computer network connection.. Each
network has own advantage. So, we can’t conclude that LAN/MAN/WAN is better than other
networks.
