the Ideas of literature discussions.

Use Launching Bold Plan PPT
Students will brainstorm ideas of what Lit
Discussions will look like and sound like in
a t-chart.
How can Lit Discussions help us to
increase our reading Comprehension?
Students will then discuss our 21st century
skills and then think and discussion
through their pens in a Graffiti activity to
decide What words, skills, ideas, they will
use for these activities?
Students will then work toward unlocking
the theme- Survival- by completing a
Making Meaning Protocol in small groups
with 4 different pieces of artwork.
Students will share these ideas together
and debrief to decide what our theme for
our Lit Discussions will be.

yesterday and further discuss the
reasons for this new discussion in our
ELA Block.
10-15-20 Minute Whole Class Lesson

Students will then discuss- How should
we hold students accountable for these
discussions? What information would be
important to include in a Weekly Rubric
for these assignments?
Students will then work together to
create this rubric for use with the class
and the 4th grade class.

Order Questions instead of just “Right
There” questions.

5. Proper Communication- Grammar,
Punctuation, etc.
Students will be assessed weekly using
their created rubric. Students will work
in small groups to give examples of
responses to the question:
How are the characters of your story
trying to survive? Is this explained
clearly or do you have to read between
the lines?
Time permitting, students will browse
the book choices and watch any
Scholastic Book Talks on their choices.

book list of Survival themed selections.
Students will choose their books and
begin reading.

reflecting on their first Posts/replies to
the discussion board.
Remind students they can create their
own posts for all of the members of the
classes to respond to, but they should be
all encompassing, meaning anyone
reading any book could still answer the
question and generate discussion from it.

of your story getting you ready for what
will happen in the plot?
What questions are you thinking about
as you begin reading?
How do you see your survival theme so
far?
Stick to reading strategies and the
Survival theme for help and guidance.
