FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL

CENG04 – Microprocessor Systems

I. PROJECT TITLE: Automated Paper Counting Machine

II. PROPONENTS:
1. HABALUYAS, Jofren
2. JUAREZ, Roxanne
3. PEDEGLORIO, Ronald Allan

III. FOCUS :

The focus of this project is to create a device that would allow

the students to automate paper counting. The user interface must be
straight-forward such that there is only one switch for starting and
stopping the device.

The project should be able to implement the PIC16F877A

microcontroller as the main controller. The device is operated by a
switch, one input sensor for checking if tray is empty, second sensor
for counting paper sheets and the stepper motor for processing. The
output is in the form of two seven segment display and a status LED
that lights up as the device is operating.

The project would be programmed to count up to ninety nine

(99) 8.5’’x11’’ sheets of paper with a speed of approximately 120ms
per page.

IV. PROJECT DELIVERABLES :

This paper-counting device shall allow individuals with limited

mobility or dexterity to specify the number of pages desired in a batch
and produce a stack of pages.

The device shall be safe, durable, switch-activated, and

multisensory in order to allow students to be as independent as
possible while using the device to accomplish the given task.

The device shall only handle papers one by one and it should be
extremely accurate in counting and in displaying the result.
