Global Studies

The world has been shrinking since the late 15th century, and the Global Studies major encourages you to explore how and why, with a special emphasis on the growing interdependencies among nations in our time. You will engage the question of how social, economic, and political issues cross national boundaries and become global issues. You will examine the interface of economics and politics at the global level and question whether we are moving toward a world of one strong global culture or many local ones. This is an interdisciplinary major that encourages you to analyze theories of internationalization that have sprung up in order to make sense of the dynamic forces of globalization. You will work with basic concepts drawn from history, geography, and international studies to understand how the world came to be the way it is. And you will also have a chance to examine how your own identity is shaped, both as a citizen of an individual nation and as a citizen of the world. In your integrative project you will elaborate a perspective on globalization or further explore another area of the world. The Bachelor of Arts Completion Program is designed to deliver six learning outcomes critical for your success: Creativity Critical Thinking Knowledge Utilization Decision Making Empowerment Effective Communication
