Etha tumhe, Klm, m anussavena, m paramparya, m itikirya, m pitakasampadnena, m takkahetu, m nayahetu, m kraparivitakkena, m ditthinijjhnakkhantiy, m bhabbarpatya, m samano no garti. Yad tumhe, Klm, attanva jneyytha: Ime dhamm akusal, ime dhamm svajj, ime dhamm viugarahit, ime dhamm samatt samdinn ahitya dukkhya samvattantti, atha tumhe, Klm, pajaheyytha. M anussavena: Do not believe something just because it has been passed along and retold for many generations. M paramparya: Do not believe something merely because it has become a traditional practice. M itikirya: Do not believe something simply because it is well-known everywhere. M Pitakasampdanena: Do not believe something just because it is cited in a text. M takkahetu: Do not believe something solely on the grounds of logical reasoning. M nayahetu: Do not believe something merely because it accords with your philosophy. M kraparivitakkena: Do not believe something because it appeals to common sense. M ditthinijjhnakkhantiy: Do not believe something just because you like the idea. M bhabbarpatya: Do not believe something because the speaker seems trustworthy. M samano no gar ti: Do not believe something thinking, This is what our teacher says. When you yourselves know, This is unwholesome, this is blameworthy, this is censured by the wise, these things when accepted and practised lead to harm and suffering, then you should give them up.
