HBEL 1103: INTRODUCTION TO ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING SEMESTER: JANUARY 2010 ASSIGNMENT (30%)

INSTRUCTIONS

1.

The assignment will be evaluated on the basis of the accuracy of the answers given and the credibility of the supporting arguments, data and references.

Type your assignment using Times New Roman, font size 12 with 1.5 line spacing on A4 size paper.

3.

Your assignment must be submitted to your tutor before or by the 4th tutorial week.

4.

Your assignment should be limited to 10 12 pages.

5.

This assignment is worth 30 % of your final course grade.

Plagiarism in any form is prohibited. Plagiarised materials will not be accepted and no marks would be awarded for the work.

ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS

You are to find one syllabus item, based on the KBSR Syllabus and Curriculum Specifications, to teach in a mixed ability classroom. Once you have chosen the skill you wanted to teach, prepare a lesson based on one of the method that you have identified. The method can be either from the structuralist approach or the non-structuralist approach. Describe and explain how your lesson incorporates the method and approach you have chosen. Carry out the lesson in class and write a commentary about the lesson, focusing on how this lesson achieve or does not achieve its objectives.

Guidelines: 1. There are FOUR parts to this assignment: (a) Identify one syllabus item from the KBSR Syllabus and Curriculum Specifications. It can be a skill from any of the main skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing). (2 marks) (b) Prepare a lesson plan to teach the skill you have chosen in a mixed ability classroom. Your lesson plan and activities should reflect this. (8 marks) (c) Describe how you incorporate the method you choose into your lesson and explain why you think that the approach will work. (10 marks) (d) Carry out the lesson in class and write a commentary about the class on whether it has achieved its objectives. Provide a few samples of students work. (10 marks) 2. 3.
