SUBWOOFERS ARC DELAY CALCULATOR USER NOTES

This spreadsheet has been compiled for system designer/engineers interested in getting excellent low frequencies control together with smooth coverage in both frequency and pressure. Subwoofer arc delay configuration will assure very good horizontal coverage, eliminating comb filtering proper of any L/R or L/C/R subwoofer configuration as will avoid most of the front rows low frequencies build-up that can be very annoying for first rows audience (the expensive seats!). Clearly the system can be run only as a mono source while it is possible to control just the horizontal directivity, for controlling vertical directivity will be necessary to add more rows of subwoofers, so instead of 12 subs will be necessary 24, 36, etc. It is suggested to use this configuration with a minimum of 8 subwoofers, even if better results will be achieved with 12 subwoofers, organized in a straight horizontal line. All the subwoofers will need to lay down on an even surface in a straight line in front of the stage, the arc configuration will be just given by electronic delay, there will not be any physical arc of the subwoofers themselves. Each couple of subwoofers, from the center towards the sides, will have his own delay time, calculated with this spreadsheet and applied through Powersoft K-Series optional DSP (or any digital delay processor with at least 1 input and 6 outputs), and will need proper amplifier channel to be driven by.

EDITABLE CELLS
The radius dimension it is intended as the horizontal dimension of half of the number of subwoofers used, this dimension will define the horizontal directivity of the arc delay of subwoofers and should be inserted in the cell ELECTRONIC ARC CALCULATION FOR xy RADIUS. It is possible to increase horizontal coverage by inserting a physical distance in the center of the subwoofer array dividing it in two parts and distancing them. This distance can be inserted in the cell CENTER SUBWOOFER POSSIBLE STACK SEPARATION xy meters It is as well possible generate delay times for the subwoofer arc delay with integrated calculation of backline or system alignment for easy of use: inserting the backline or system distance from subwoofers, in the editable cell BACKLINE DISTANCE FROM SUBWOOFERS LOCATION xy meters, the spreadsheet will provide delay times for subwoofer arc delay already aligned to backline/system. METRIC CONVERSION will help whom works with imperial system to use this spreadsheet while SUBWOOFER PHYSICAL DIMENSIONS will provide the basic for calculation of arc delay, W stands for single subwoofer width, H for single subwoofer height and D for single subwoofer deep all in centimetres.
