1 E Light (photo electricity)

Optoelectronics is the study and application of electronic devices that source, detect and control light. One common example is a photovoltaic or solar cell. This device, converts the energy of sunlight directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect. Photovoltaics is the field of technology and research related to the application of solar cells in producing electricity for practical use. The energy generated this way is an example of solar energy (also known as solar power). Sometimes the term solar cell is reserved for devices intended specifically to capture energy from sunlight such as solar panels and solar cells. Assemblies of cells are used to make solar panels, solar modules, or photovoltaic arrays. Photoelectric components on the other hand, are photodiodes and phototransducers. These components are NOT to be confused with photo voltaic cells as they don t produce electricity. Photoelectric components only are used to sense the presence of light. These components are generally used in the automotive industry as crank angle sensor pick -up s due to their very quick reaction time. A Photoresistor or light dependent resistor, is a resistor whose resistance decreases with increasing incident light intensity. It can also be referred to as a photoconductor Photoresistors come in many different types. These inexpensive but slow reacting cells can be found in many consumer items such as camera light meters, street lights, clock radios, outdoor garden lighting and alarms.
