BMT Hull Roughness Analyser

multi-core cable connects the measuring head to the Analyser/data collector which is carried using a neck strap. As the Analyser is traversed over the hull, the roughness, in terms of peak-totrough is calculated. The system can be provided with a waterproof head and extension cable to allow measurements to be taken with the vessel afloat. The Mark III Hull Roughness Analyser stores roughness values in a removable battery backed memory module. Daya is decoded and downloaded, via a serial link, for further analysis under PC Windows-based applications. The monitoring and measurement of hull roughness provides a number of benefits, including: a numerical standard of roughness providing a datum for quality control; a rational basis for scheduling/synchronising hull maintenance and cleaning; performance monitoring of coatings and providing a link to fuel efficiency predictions; providing independent, numerical evidence in the event of performance claims. The BMT Hull Roughness Analyser is accepted as the industry standard instrument for the measurement of hull roughness and offers proven benefits to ship operators, ship builders, ship repairers and coating manufacturers. They are rugged, portable, easy to use and have been operating successfully for many years. A hand propelled measuring head is traversed over the hull surface and the roughness determined by monitoring the displacement of a stylus relative to a curved skid. A potted infrared receiver/detector system provides a pulse to trigger the Analyser every 50mm of movement of the trolley. A flexible
