CORN GRITS IMPORTED BY THE BREWERY COMPANIES OF CAMEROON

Summary of Project Idea: (No more than 150 words)

THE PROBLEM 3 pts Which Problem have you identified? Why is it a problem? The problem that we have identified is that most of the students at the university in Cameroon face financial difficulties in their attempts in providing for their academic needs. Meanwhile, opportunities such as the development of agriculture precisely through the production of brewery corn could permit them solve their financial difficulties and eventually, obtain jobs. In fact, many if not all societies in the brewery industry of Cameroon import more than 60% of their raw materials including brewery corn. This is a problem given that the financial difficulties unemployment causes unwilling university drop outs. It is worth nothing that in this sector of production there is only one supplier in Cameroon although this culture is compatible with our land contrary to malt, wheat which do not grow in Cameroon. This problem is specific since after 63 years of existence the Brasseries du Cameroun still import more than60% of brewery corn because MAISCAM is the only local supplier. Given that this sector has a large market share we engage ourselves in producing brewery corn so that students could work with us during their free periods in order to provide for their needs and pay their school fees THE SOLUTION - 5 pts What solution are you proposing for this problem? We are going to do this culture on a 5hectare piece of land not yet exploited and irrigated by natural sources of water (at the foot of mountains of the western region of Cameroon precisely Mbouda in the Bamboutos) given that in our discourses the Brasseries du Cameroun engaged in providing us with adequate seeds and assist us by putting their technical team at our disposal. Hence, graduates from the university and prestigious schools can work with us according to their time table and have a source of revenue without necessarily interrupting their courses at the university.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2011

Is the team involved in the implementation of the solution? Yes, our team is able to implement this solution because we are all students from a prestigious school of commerce (ESSEC) and we know the process of conception, management ant the realization of projects. Also, the Brasseries du Cameroun through their technical and exploitation team will assist us in the realization of this project so that this culture should be a quality one What innovation does your solution have? Students with on going courses at the university find it difficult to obtain jobs. Most of the available jobs are full time jobs but this does not suit students willing to push through with their studies. Instead, it may be the cause of premature school drop outs. Conscious of the difficulties that we encounter every day, we engage ourselves in employing students during their free time. More to that, with the aim of respecting the environmental and sanitary norms we find it proper to use natural fertilizers obtained from the degradation of household waste material instead of pesticides that causes damage to nature. Why would your solution be feasible? Contrary to malt, wheat the cultivation of brewery corn is necessary for the production of alcoholic drinks and it is compatible with our land; This is proven by the fact that MAISCAM is the only local supplier to have succeeded in this sector. The site for this production is near the university and this area has favorable climatic conditions for this cultivation. THE MARKET ANALYSIS - 10pts 1. Consider the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT). Clearly describe each aspect of the SWOT. Strength: The partnership with SABC for the supply of quality seeds, Harambe Cameroon for training and an eventual financing of the project. The groups capital that stands to about 250 000 FRS CFA ($500) Weakness: Our professional training is still going on Opportunity: Les developed local markets, abundant work force and local production Threats: Climate change (global warming) and the respect for SRE norms. 2. Who/what is your Competition? How do you compare with your competition? There is no challenge between MAISCAM and us because SABC and other brewery industries need local producers to reduce the cost of imports. 3. Who could be your potential partners? Institutional? Governmental? Corporate? Communities? More... We already have as partners LES BRASSERIES DU CAMEROUN who will provide us seeds and put their technical teams at our disposal. Our potential partners are union des Brasseries du Cameroun, SGBC, La FASA, SIAG, IRAD, PNUD, and Harambe Cameroon. 4. What do you need to make your business special? Clearly explain each domain: (PESTLE) (Political, Economical, Social, Technological, Legal, Ecological) Political; Reduction of the level of unemployment, fight against youth delinquency in streets, job creation and the well being of students.
