To: School Board Members From: Tammy Mitchell Re: Teaching Tolerance at the High School Dear School Board Members, Recently an issue was brought to my attention by parents, faculty, and the principal of the High School regarding the lack of teaching tolerance at that level. After hearing concerns from all three groups and discussing possible options for tolerance integration, I have come up with a solution to the issue that will enable us to integrate teaching tolerance at the high school level while bringing together students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members. My proposed plan of action pending your approval is to bring together a Tolerance Team at the High School which is made up of a diverse group including members from all of the groups mentioned above with an administrator or teacher as a leader. This group will work collaboratively in planning activities, events, speakers, movies, High School TV public service announcements and skits, bulletin board displays, and other ideas that will focus on teaching all aspects of tolerance to all high school students throughout the school year. This opportunity will allow for the integration of teaching tolerance without the need to alter our curriculum and fosters a sense of connection between students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community members. This will also offer an opportunity for students of diverse backgrounds to come together for a purpose and feel a sense of belonging they otherwise might not have. Please consider my proposal and feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this opportunity for our High School. Thank you, Tammy Mitchell
