the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Brazil? Rios colorful carnival parades? Soccer players? Samba? Bikini-clad beauties on beaches? One of Brazils best-kept secrets is incredibly rich culinary heritage. Feijoada, the national dish of Brazil, is a Sunday ritual in many households, especially in Rio, where this traditional lunch meal can take up the entire afternoon! The origins of the dish can be traced back to the days of slavery and reflect the mix of African and European cultures. Te story goes that white slaves owners, after choosing the best cuts of meat of their table, would send the unwanted parts ( like the ears and tail!) to the slaves to eat. The slaves would cook these parts with black beans and local ingredients transforming it into a rich and filling stew. This tasty Brazilian meal takes a little while to prepare, but thats worth it!
