SUMMARY (ANG NAKARAAN)

Immunity enables the body to tolerate the presence of material indigenous to the body (self ) and to eliminate foreign material ( non-self ). This ability provides protection from infectious diseases through the presence of antibodies very specific to a single antigen. Vaccination allows the body to develop immunity against certain materials that may be harmful to the body.

EPI is a nationwide multi-sector program of the DOH focused on the provision of immunization toinfants,young childrenandmothers.It is aimed at reducing child morbidity and mortality due to vaccine-preventable childhood killer diseases, namely:
o o o o o o o Tuberculosis (BCG vaccine) Poliomyelitis (OPV vaccine) Diphtheria,Pertussis, Tetanus (DPT vaccine) Measles (Measles vaccine) Hepatitis B (Hep B vaccine) Mumps, Rubella (MMR vaccine) H. influenzae infection (Hib vaccine)

General contraindications for vaccination are: o Severe allergy to a prior dose of vaccine or to a vaccine component o Encephalopathy following pertussis vaccine o Pregnancy o Immunosuppression o Recent Blood Products

The AISAF recommends the vaccination for: o Health professionals: DTaP, HepB, Varicella, Influenza, Typhoid, Rabies o Geriatric patients: Pneumococcal, Influenza o Travelers: Varicella, Typhoid o All adults: MMR
