Time: 3hours Max. Marks:60

Answer any FIVE questions

All questions carry equal marks
---

1.a) Explain various reasons for the arise of facility location problem.
b) There are four existing facilities which are to be served by a single
new facility. The details of the existing facilities are shown in the
following table.
Existing facility (i) 1 2 3 4
Coordinates (ai,bi) 15,10 10,5 5,15 20,10
No.of trips of 200 100 300 400
loads/year (wi)

Find the optimum location of the new facility such that the total cost of
material handling is minimized by using Euclidean-Distance method.

3. Consider the following assembly network relationships of a

product. The number of shifts per day is three and the number of
working hours per shifts is 8. The company aims to produce 60
units of the product per day.
Group the activities into work stations using RPW method and
compute balance efficiency.

4.a) Explain various capacity planning strategies.

b) A system has seven stations. The individual capacity of the critical
station is limited to 1000 units per week. If, the actual output of the
product line is 800 units per week, find
i) The system capacity and ii) System efficiency.
