Un-Churched, De-Churched, and Hobo Chris<ans

Like any church, we try to open our doors to everyone, no ma6er their background or their age. However, we also recognize that the largest group that ts into all three categories listed above is the 18-35 emerging culture that seems to have disappeared in many of our churches today. This group also populates the urban core of Colorado Springs. Its where they live, gather, work, and play.

Old Colorado City Life music, coffee, justice

Un-Churched those that have never really been exposed to church other than the occasional Christmas or Easter visit De-Churched People who have been hurt, abused, let down, etc. by the church before. They may or may not have a relaMonship with God, but they want nothing to do with His church now! Hobo Chris<ans - Those ChrisMans in the emerging culture, ages ranging from about 18 to 35 that do believe in Christ but misunderstand the purpose and importance of the church. They usually a6end 2-4 churches per week, but belong to none! They simply go for what they can get out of each church (i.e. music/worship experience, teaching, Bible study, outreach, mission opportuniMes, etc.). These are much more a class of their own instead of a family of believers. They seek a relaMonship with God, but want to remain independent from the body of Christ. HUBS - We see 4 distinct yet over lapping cultural HUBS that we are called to. We strategically target these 4 areas and are planting grassROOTS communities in each of these for the soul purpose of having intentional FOCUS in each area. 2009 - Urban Core Launch 2011 - Colorado College grassROOTS community 2012 - Late night Arts community Launch in Old Colorado City 2013 - Cragmoor grassROOTS community

Vision

Project name: grassROOTS church

Descrip<on of the Project: grassROOTS church is a church plant in the urban core of Colorado Springs that was birthed out of a personal street ministry outreach to young people ages 18-35 that have become lost in the gap of our modern churches. In January 2008, Clay was serving at the Underground Church as the youth, family, and young adult pastor. During this Mme, Clay became incredibly burdened for this missing gap and simply wanted to be where they were. So every Friday night a^er youth group had ended, Clay and a friend headed downtown to simply meet people where they were. They walked the streets and hung out in front of all of the downtown bars, night clubs, and ta6oo shops and just talked to the people. This experience really changed them and every week they had incredible stories of what God was doing! SomeMmes they just hung out with people and listened, and someMmes they would give the military guys a ride back to Fort Carson (our local Army installaMon) if theyd had one or 100 too many drinks. Almost every week God would open up unbelievable doors for them to have real conversaMons about God, church, ChrisMans, and religion with people who were happy to vent! Once they let them talk and vent, they would be completely open to hearing the truth about Jesus Christ. By May 2008, God really began sMrring Clays heart to start a church in the Urban core of Colorado Springs. By July, there was no quesMon that God was calling him and his family to start a church. Clays pastor blessed and released him and he went! By the fall of the same year, grassROOTS had an EIN number and for the rst Mme, Clay heard the term church planMng. That fall, he put together a small launch team with no funding, no training, and no support. In January 2009, they launched grassROOTS church and met in the Lon Chaney Theatre in the historic City Auditorium right in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs. Since the launch, God has been exceedingly gracious by opening up incredible doors of opportunity for partnership, training, and support. First, with the Pikes Peak BapMst AssociaMon, Vanguard Church, Circle Drive BapMst, Springs Ranch, Heart of the Springs, Garden Ranch, Woodmen Valley, and Mountain Springs Church. All have been a huge encouragement and have blessed us with training, counseling, oce space, retreats, assessments, tools, funding and gi^s, such as, money for our website to be built. Our community (specically the 4 HUBS) have welcomed us with open arms! The City Auditorium gave us a second to none deal in 2009 for our rent of the theatre for gatherings, and they conMnue to be very gracious by giving us free storage and use of some of their equipment. They even say We love being the home of grassROOTS, which is a huge compliment since we dont currently bring in a lot of revenue to their venue.

Our specic and immediate need is nancial partnership with mission focused groups so that we can have full <me leadership and dedicated pastors to con<nue lead this mission, bring on and pay more support sta, rent larger spaces for our growing church body, and provide the necessary equipment and resources it takes to care for a young church plant.
