ABSTRACT Vaginal electrical resistance (VER) and ovarian findings were recorded in 224 cows that were inseminated using frozen semen. Twenty eight cows were also inseminated without recording VER. It was noticed that there was a wide difference between the conception rates with the first insemination which were 92.5, 58.46, 16.27, 5.55 and 42.85% respectively when the cows were inseminated at a VER between 26-30 Ohms (Group I), 31-35 Ohms (Group II), 36-40 Ohms (Group III), 41 Ohms and above (Group IV) and without VER recording (Group V). The finding of low VER (Group I & II) closely corroborated with the presence of a mature follicle in the ovary, whereas with high VER (Group III & IV), ovulation had already taken place. It was concluded that inseminating cows at a low VER is distinctly advantageous to improve the conception rates. Key Words: VER, follicle, ovulation, Insemination, conception.
