GENERAL OBSERVATION
The cover of the book confirms the books subtitle Communication and Values . One picture shows the parent and the child reading a book (A Filipino value) and the other the way of communicating with others (Communication) The book is slim giving a lighter feeling to the students. It is not heavy thus it is student friendly.

STRENGTHS
It is light weight, Easy to carry and the cover is appealing to the eye.

WEAKNESSES

RECOMMENDATIONS

Because the descriptions and Add graphical illustrations on explanations are short, there is a each lesson to stimulate the possibility that the students students. would not fully respond to the activities the teacher wants them to do.

The book, as said on the preface, focus on Communication and Values. It emphasizes the four competencies from the PSSLC by DepEd. It gives more emphasis on Listening It has reading selections on each lesson The descriptions and explanations on each lesson are brief

It does not only mold the student into being competent but it aims to nurture them with the proper values and communication skills necessary in life. It has Pre, While and Post listening activities.

It will be burdensome for the teacher s part. The teacher will be the one reading the passage for the pre-listening exercises. It will be time consuming. It will be best for private schools because of the complexity of the discussion and explanation part. The student wouldn t have so much interest on a book with pure text. The book is too textual. It only uses two colors (Green and Black) There were so many reading selections at the latter part of the book.

Use vivid colors for the text

Add more reading materials that are aligned with the interests of the students Focus also on speaking. Or better yet make the four competencies integrated with each other. Add more activities that encourages team work Keep the simplicity of the book but make sure that it is worth more than the usual books.

Each lesson is geared towards building up the four competencies in each individual. It gives practical and useable information to the students. The readings given were mostly moral based thus confirming the goal of the book. The reading selections, mostly the poems encourage critical thinking and analysis.
