BIOMETRICS

Biometrics are automated methods of recognizing a person based on physiological or behavioral characteristics. General science has included biometrics as field of statistics development since early 20th century. Biometric technologies are becoming the foundation of an extensive array of highly secured identification and personal verification solutions. Biometric in the high tech. sector refers to a particular class of identification technologies .These technologies use an individuals unique biological traits to determine ones identity. The traits that are considered include fingerprints, retina and iris patterns and many more. Biometric history in recent past has seen drastic advancements and technology has moved from single method to product methods. The types of biometrics are behavioral and physical biometrics. Behavioral biometric basically measure the characteristics which are acquired naturally over a time. It is a generally used for verification whereas physical biometrics measure the inherent physical characteristics on an individual. It can be used for either for identification or verification. Advantages of biometrics are increase sercurity, reduce fraud and reduce password administration cost. Biometric applications can only be limited by limiting ones imagination. Biometric technology is now being used in almost every area. Biometrics are said to pervade nearly all aspects of the economy and our daily lives. The most interesting biometric technology of the ones mentioned in this report is without doubt iris reorganization. Hence, biometric systems are going to get more and more common in everyday applications due to the fact that new technologies are rapidly developing and price and size of hardware is constantly dropping.
