EXTERNAL MOBILITY
Employees who are not satisfied with their career in the present organization may seek suitable employment in other organisations. Similarly organisations may also prefer candidates from external sources, if the internal candidates are not found suitable. This situation in career development of both the individuals and organisations result in external mobility or employee turnover. External mobility is also known as external career.

External mobility means shifting of employees into and out of an organisation. It is defined as the rate of change in the employees of an organisation during a definite period. It measures the extent to which old employees leave and new employees enter into an organisation

TYPES OF EXTERNAL MOBILITY


External mobility is of two types 1-ACCESSION 2-SEPERATION

ACCESSIONS - Accessories are additions of new candidates to the existing employees. Accessions include employment of new candidates, reemployment of former employees, employees called back to work after lay off etc.

SEPARATIONS
Separations means termination of employment. They include Voluntary quit or resignations by employees when they are dissatisfied with the present job and/or organisation, or when they get better employment in other organisations. Layoff of lack of work. Organisations terminate the services or employees when the jobs are eliminated or reduced due to adoption to technology or adverse business conditions of lack or power, materials, breakdown of machinery etc.

SOURCE OF RECRUITMENT
After understanding the company strategy and recruitment policy , the HR manager has to search for the candidate who can contribute for the achievement of the company strategy. He has to search for candidate in various sources: 1-Traditional source of recruitment and 2-Modern source of recruitment TRADITIONAL SOURCE OF RECRUITMENT

It is divided in to two parts-internal source & external source.

INTERNAL SOURCE
(a) Present Permanent Employees:Organisations consider the candidate from this source for higher level jobs due to availability of most suitable candidates for jobs relatively or equally to the external source, to meet the trade union demands & due to the policy of the organization to motivate the present employees (b)Present Temporary or Casual Employees: Organisations find this source to fill the vacancies relatively lower level owing to the availability of suitable candidates.

(C) Retrenched or

Retired Employees:Generally, a particular organisation retenches the employees dueto lack of work.The organisation takes the candidates for employment from the retrenched employees dueto obligation , trade union pressure and the like.Sometimes ,the organizations prefer to re-employ their retired employees as a token of their loyality to the organizations.

EXTERNAL SOURCE
(a)Campus Recruitment:Different types of organizations like industries,business firms ,service organizations ,social or religious organizations can get inexperienced candidates of different types from various educational institutions like colleges and univercities imparting education in Science, Commerce ,Engineering,Technology,Management Studies etc and trained candidates in different disciplines like vocational,engineering,medicine from the training institutes likeVocational Training Institutes of State Govts in various trades.

(b)Data Bank: The management can collect the bio-data of


candidates from different sources like Employment Exchange, Educational Training Institutes,candidates etc and feed them in computer.
(C) Casual

Application: Depending upon the image of the

organisation,its prompt response, participation of the organizational in the local activities ,level of unemployment. This would be suitable source for temporary and lower level jobs.

Similar Organisation:Generally,experienced candidates


are available in the organizations producing similar products or are engaged in similar business. The management can get suitable candidates from this source.

(e)Professional Organizations: Professional organization or associations maintain complete biodata of their members and provide the same to various organization on requisition. They also act as an exchange between their members and recruiting firms in exchanging information, clarifying doubts etc.
