INTRODUCTION

The cell phone industry has shown a remarkable growth in the last decade. Indian market has become second largest market in communication sector after US. in the 19th decade when cell phones were newly lunched in the market then they dont have so much of features in them as compare to todays scenario. Slowly and slowly mobile sector gains a rapid growth with the help of technology. Today the scenario is that in every hands one can see a cell phone and with additional features like in only one phone you can have camera, fm radio , video recording ,mp3 player , voice recording, internet etc.

Of all these features there comes a new feature in the cell phones which divides the market into two segments .the new feature in the cell phone is DUAL SIM. The main reason of introducing the DUAL SIM Feature in the market is due to several reasons. Mix business with pleasure, Reduced roaming, Sharing your phone, Guaranteed coverage. Also one can say the reason behind the success of dual sim mobile phones in the market is because the companies which are leader in this sector does not make appropriate strategy on entrance to dual sim mobile phones into the market.

Gradually, the dual sim mobile phones covers a large market share of 20% in short interval of the time. watching the rapid growth of dual sim cell phones the companies who are on the top in this market are also entering into the manufacturing of dual sim mobile phones. A dual SIM mobile phone is one which holds two SIM cards. Initially, dual-SIM adapters were made available to use in regular mobile phones to allow them to contain two SIM, and to switch from one to the other as required. This combination is called a standby dual-SIM phone. The first Dual SIM mobile phone was Benefon Twin manufactured by Benefon in Finland. .

Dual-SIM operation allows the use of two services without the need to carry two phones at the same time. For example, the same handset can be used for business and private use with separate numbers and bills; or for travel, with an additional SIM for the country visited. Using multiple SIM cards allows the user to take advantage of different pricing plans for calls and text messages to certain destinations as well as mobile data usage.

The dual SIM mobile phones have been found to have occupied the lion's share of the market, giving the customers exactly what they had long been looking for. With some interesting and advanced features, these dual SIM phones have predominantly attracted many people from all generations and ages.

An Introduction to Dual Sim Mobile Phones

Though comparatively new, the dual SIM mobile phones have been found to have occupied the lion's share of the market, giving the customers exactly what they had long been looking for. With some interesting and advanced features, these dual SIM phones have predominantly attracted many people from all generations and ages. The purpose that the dual SIM mobile phones are supposed to serve is to make it possible to use 2 SIM cards in a single mobile phone, and we can use either of the two. Now this is something very amazing because so far we had to carry two different mobile phones to use two different contact numbers. The earlier dual SIM mobile phones could have two SIM cards but could not activate them at the same time. The recent models of dual SIM mobile phones have modern technological features due to which you can keep both the contact numbers active. Using two SIM cards with one handset is pretty convenient since we need not juggle between multiple phones to separate business and personal lives or when we are on roaming. With its excellent features you just have to go to the menu where you can switch from one SIM card to the other. Signals for both the SIM cards are strong. If we use dual SIM mobile phones with a transceiver it would turn into a standby dual SIM mobile phones. The battery may run out of charge often, but use of better quality battery can keep away from this problem. In general, dual SIM mobile phones are integrated with analog IC chips. However, certain manufactures have also started using the latest digital IC chips. One very good thing about dual SIM mobile phones is that it is available at a very competitive price. Business strategies of the manufacturers and the competition in the market may reduce the price of dual SIM mobile phones, while the quality will increase. We can find dual SIM mobile phones from many branded manufactures in the market, including but not limited to Spice, Samsung, and LG. Some of such companies are Samsung, Spice and LG.

SIM? SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module card that which is the key for the portability of your mobile. The SIM from a mobile service provider will be able to secure your data and identify yourself over the network and connects us with people whom you want. This is the key to operate your mobile phone, and there are two types of mobile phones: Single SIM and a dual SIM mobile phone. Single SIM Versus Dual SIM: Single SIM mobile phones are those that use only a single SIM at a time, and dual SIM mobile phones are those that can operate on two SIM cards. In dual SIM card mobile phones, if one of the SIM card remains inactive while the other one is active, then is known as Standby Dual SIM phone, and if both the cards are active concurrently, then is known as Active Dual SIM mobile phone.

Nokia Market Share Falls

IDC India has published a report on growth of mobile sales in India (for 2009) and here are some of the relevant data points to track:

The growth has more or less flat [owing to low sales figure in Q1] in total, 101.54 million units of sales were registered.

Local manufacturers* have grabbed 17.5% market share [from 0.9%, a year back] Only 5 local manufacturers in 2008 and the number stands at 28 now! Nokia market share in India fell from 56.2% share in 2008 to 54.1% in 2009. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltds share rose marginally to 9.7% from 9.5%. LGs share dropped from 7.2% to 6.4%, Of the local manufacturers, Micromax leads the race and holds a market share stands of 4.8%.

Like any market research, take this with a pinch of salt [for instance, Nokia has expressed reservations about the research, since IDC didnt take into account its production facility in Chennai, which ships 50% of the manufactured mobile to India]. Nevertheless, this is an interesting result and rise of local companies shows that there is a value in local IP [eat this: Micromax Q5 phone is just like Blackberry/E71/72 with a far lesser price which Blackberrys of the world cannot even match]. Whats your take on the rise of Indian local mobile manufacturers? Top 5 Local manufacturers Micromax, Karbonn Mobiles, Spice Mobiles Ltd, Videocon Industries Ltd and Lava International Ltd. Helsinki: Nokias share of the mobile phone market dropped to 25% in the first quarter of 2011, the lowest for 14 years, down from 30.6% at the same time last year, technology research group Gartner said on Thursday. Its market share declined 5.5%age points year-on-year, and its share has reached its lowest since 1997, Gartner said in a study. Nokia had released its own figures on 21 April putting first-quarter market share at 29%, down from 33% in the first quarter of 2010. Earlier this year, the company announced a radical restructuring to overcome increasingly fierce competition in the smartphone market. The Finnish company, which had a global market share of 40% as late as 2008, nonetheless remains the mobile industry leader.

It still ranking well ahead of second-place Samsung, which holds 16%, followed by LG in third with 5.6%, Apple in fourth with 3.9% and RIM with 3.0%. Nokia announced in February that it expected a period of uncertainty as it phased out its Symbian platform in favour of a tie-in with Microsofts Windows Phone operating system for its smartphones. But Gartner said the Finnish company was still taking a beating in the rapidly growing smartphone sector, pointing out that Android and Apples iOS continued to dominate the smartphone operating system wars. Smartphones accounted for 23.6% of overall sales in the first quarter of 2011, an increase of 85% year-on-year, Roberta Cozza, Gartners principal research analyst, said in the report. Worldwide mobile phone devices sales meanwhile increased by 19% year-on-year, according to Gartners data, totalling 427.8 million units sold in the first quarter. The research group said it expected the total number of mobile phone sold worldwide this year to tick in at nearly 1.8 billion units

THE TOOLS USED FOR DATA ANALYSIS

The data collected will be analyzed using various statistical tools. The basic framework of the model consisted of unobservable theoretical constructs, which would not be measured directly. So, this study used a set of indicator variables, which measured the unobservable constructs.
To tackle the problem of measuring the latent variables, usually two strategies are followed. The first is selection of a single indicator variable for each theoretical construct. However, in most cases, it is unrealistic to assume that a single indictor variable will provide a reliable measure of the latent variables. The second method is to assign pre- determined weights to different indictor variables.

DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION For the purpose of analyzing the data will be summarized in a master tables and from this table the results can be concluded. The total scores will be calculated in case of ranking questions and the total score final ranking is given by calculating mean.

An error may have been due to the samples taken not conforming to the actual population: this is because the sample is a convenience sample. Personal bias or error of the interviewer might also have crept in: some cases, while interpreting the respondents. Certain questions which are not properly responded by the responders. Some of the respondents have not responded totally. According to the time limit of our project we can cover only the some area.
