Jn 1:1 in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word

was God. This pronouncement of Apostle John simply tells us that in the beginning God and the Word together already existed and the Word is also God. Now, one of the questions that may arise is: just what does it mean by In the beginning? The answer for this can be found in Gen. 1:1 which says In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Therefore in the beginning simply means the beginning of all things in the universe. The universe has its beginning because it is being created. One might get confused and will conclude that the Word has also its beginning because Jn 1:1 starts with In the Beginning was the Word. But remember in the beginning pertains to the moment of the creation of the universe and if we look at Col 1:17He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. The Word therefore has long been existed before the creation of all things and the phrase In the Beginning was the Word, simply means He was there during the creation of the universe. In fact, all things were created through Him.
