Introduction
Welcome, I am Mrs. Berry and I will be teaching 8th grade English Language Arts again this year. I am looking forward to great year with you and I trust you will have a great learning experience this year as we explore new areas in English Language Arts.

Procedures
Students are expected to be in their assigned seat filling in planner and reading an SSR book when the bell rings. Students are expected to come to class with their free reading book, assignment and any needed supplies. Students are responsible for looking on the assignment calendar for work missed due illness or unexpected absences. (Students have two days per absence to complete their missing assignments up to five days.) . For pre-arranged absences and vacations all work is due the second day back to class. Students are expected to use their planner and planners will be checked.

Course Study
This year in ELA A we will begin the year with review and study skills and then move into speeches and a persuasion essay. In ELA B we will write a research paper, study realistic fiction, and science fiction. Finally in ELA C we will write a 5 paragraph essay and compare/contrast essay. We will also read historical fiction. Students will be responsible for 20 Accelerated Reader points each term.

Assignments
Number 2 Pencils Black or Blue Ink Pens 90 Page Composition Notebook Much of our work will be done in class. Any student who does not finish during the time provided will be expected to complete it as homework. Group projects will be graded by individual participation. Every one in the group will be expected to do their part and will be graded according to their involvement.
