Chaplaincy Studies - Research Degrees The Centre welcomes applications from those interested in working for a research degree

(MPhil or PhD) Any area of interest relating to chaplaincy would be considered. The following areas represent current research interests for the Centre:

The practice of chaplaincy in different sectors (including models of chaplaincy and questions of professionalism) Empirical research into chaplaincy (especially qualitative approaches) Chaplaincy in a multi-faith context Chaplaincy and public policy (especially in relation to equality and diversity) The implications of chaplaincy for an understanding of the public role of religion and spirituality Ethical questions relating to chaplaincy Chaplaincy education and professional development

2008-2013: Models of Prison Chaplaincy

2008-2013: Accounting for decision-making in relation to withdrawal and withholding of treatment in intensive care settings

2009-2014: Rawls, Nozick and the Military Covenant a military chaplain's perspective

Postgraduate Study:

Graduate Diploma in Practical Theology and M.Th Candidates who have a good first degree, usually in theology but at least with some theological study, and who show the potential to work at post-graduate level in theology2 or 3 yearsA conversion course for those capable of working at M-Level but who need a lift into M-Level study or to strengthen their theological knowledge M.Th or M.Phil (and extra practical placements)Graduates in theology showing ability to work at post-grad level2 yearsM-Level study or research for those with a good grounding in practical theology, possibly needing more practical experience.
