Chapter 3 The Greatest Revolution

(pp 62-86) Preparing for your Opportunity

You may have noticed by now that not every question in these reviews is answerable or clearly answerable from your text. The majority of them are, but some of them you have to dig around and reorganize the information like in the Puritan/Pilgrim question. Dont freak out if one of the unanswerable questions appears on an Opportunity. I sincerely want to know what you think, but most importantly tell me WHY you think so! The strength of your WHY is what you need to focus on. In 1763 the colonists still felt themselves to be a part of the British Empire. Most of them were even proud to be a part of it, yet 12 years later they went to war with that same empire. What were the key factors that brought about this change? Assess George Washingtons role as a leader. What were his strengths and weaknesses? Name at least one person who was an agitator for war. Give a description of their thoughts, attitudes and actions and how they were able to influence the colonists. Was there anyone who tried to keep the peace? If so, give a description of their thoughts, attitudes and actions and why they were unable to influence the colonists. Was the Revolutionary War a war of liberation or a civil war? You decide and lay out your case. What evidence/arguments can you use to back up your claim?
