Campus Updates
Kristen Curtis Staff Many positive changes have gone on at Laurier Brantford during the summer months. Students will be pleasantly surprised to see that the Research and Academic Centre East has been completed, however many other changes have also taken place across campus. The building at 97 Dalhousie Street, a former bar and strip club, will house the offices for Accessible Learning and a space for art exhibitions. It will offer an accessible entrance from Harmony Square. There will also be a lecture theatre that will act also as a black box performing arts theatre, which will seat about 80. A black box theatre space is innovative and adheres to a simple concept: black curtains and walls will not clash with costumes allowing for more creativity and imagination on stage. There is a new student service based out of the front of the old bookstore in Grand River Hall. Known as Service Laurier, it will deal with parking passes, registration and enrolment and OneCard, among other services. The SC Johnson Building has seen improvements, including the addition of a new lounge and computer lab. The Athena Residence on Wellington Street has been leased by Laurier, and has added extra beds to help accommodate students. Meanwhile, the Student Centre has redecorated its lounges, adding new furniture as well to promote a more comfortable working environment, and to create a less awkward seating arrangement. As the population of Laurier Brantford expands, so too does the infrastructure of campus.
