Medications GENERIC /TRADE NAME Anti-rabies vaccine ACTION Vaccination is the best way to protect against lifethreatening disease specifically rabies. Vaccines work by causing the body to produce its own protection (antibodies). INDICATION Rabies prophylaxis should be considered in clients who have been bitten by dogs, cats. CONTRAINDICATION Do not give repeated doses of rabies immunoglobulin once rabies vaccine is given as this may reduce the immunologic response to the vaccine. If IM injection is contra-indicated, injection may be given by SC with pressure and compress applied to site after injection.
