ABSTRACT

Remote Configuration Management Tool (RCMT)is an application which aimed at

easing the work oI administrator oI an enterprise network. The prime objective oI this
application is to carry out installations and uninstallation oI soItware`s, patches and
applications, remotely and in a completely unattended manner. The administrator can
conIigure all the machines in the network, even across the subnets, sitting at a single
location.

The main Ieature oI this application is that it will not use any agent residing on the
target machines to carry out the required procedure. As a result, the trouble oI going to
the machine is avoided. When a new machine is added in the network it can be
straightaway conIigured by this soItware, without having to install any specialized
soItware on it.

The application will also be capable oI handling other requests such as:
O isting oI soItware`s on the remote machines.
O $earching Ior a given application in the network.
O #ebooting the target machine.
O $ending messages to any target machine in the network oI the discovery machine.
O The application will maintain logs Ior all the installations/uninstallations.
O I the installation/uninstallation is partially completed beIore stalling then the
machine will be restored to its last known stable state.

This application need not be installed on the server machine, i.e. the administrator can
install this application on any machine connected to the network and start using it. This
application is supported by windows 2K onwards and it has been tested on Windows
2000 and Windows XP.

The requirements oI the RCMT which conIigures any remote machine in the network.
This is a totally agent less system i.e. it does not rely on any agent residing on the remote
machine to be conIigured. This is not client server based architecture. Any machine
that hosts this soItware becomes capable oI conIiguring any oI the remote host machines
in the network.
