WHATS HAPPENING
n The Mecosta County Rod & Gun Club will be holding a Red Bird Backup shoot on Sept. 17, 2011. Sign up starts at 9:30 a.m. and rounds will start at 10 a.m. A $1 coin will be awarded for hitting a white clay target and a plaque will awarded for high score. If you shoot more then two rounds, you will have to choose the scoring rounds prior to the start of the event. The shoot is open to the public. The club is located 4 miles West of Mecosta on M-20. For more info: www.mecostacountyrodandgunclub. org. n You Can help save the Day! There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 1 to 5:45 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 12, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 7296 Nine Mile Rd., in Mecosta. Walk-ins are welcome or you may call Lindsey, with the Red Cross, at (231) 740-8952. n An AARP Drivers Safety Program will be offered in September through the Mecosta County Commission on Aging. Classes will run from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 22. The classroom course will help older drivers become more aware of their changes in vision, hearing and reaction time and how to adjust their driving accordingly. There are no tests in the two fourhour sessions. Attendees will go over basic rules of the road and typical traffic violations elderly drivers commit. State government passed legislation encouraging auto-insurance companies to grant adults 50 and older a discount on their auto insurance for completing a drivers safety course. Attendees should consult their insurance agents to see what discounts are available. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non members. For more information or to sign up for the course, call the senior center at (231) 972-2884. n Dances are being held from 7 to 11 p.m. the third Saturday of each month at the Mecosta VFW. The dances are open to the public and cost $5 admission. The Lost Country Band plays during the dances. The dances are being held to promote something fun for young and old. Food also is available. For more information, contact Deb Stieg at (231) 972-1953.

Whether you are looking to switch jobs or are out of work, it can now take longer than ever to find a new job. And its not just the economy thats to blame. The rules have changed when it comes to finding jobs, says William Holland, author of the new book Cracking the New Job Market. Globalization and technological advances have permanently transformed the job market. Its not about your credentials, but rather the value you offer a company. Recruiter Tony Beshara agrees. A rsum is not a simple list of your credentials, devoid of context, says Beshara, author of the new guide, Unbeatable Rsums. Its a sales tool that lets the hiring authority know you can perform the duties needed immediately.
