    Group 1 (Jyotishma, Nikath, Florence, Daniel, David, Jay)


    Describe the different types of microorganisms. How are different types of bacteria classified? What is normal flora and where are they found? What is communicable disease? Give some examples.

    Group 2 (Farzana, Naqsheeba, Priya, Jacky, Maika, Joseph)


    How does the body protect itself from diseases caused by micro-organisms? How are bacterial infections transmitted? How do infections spread once they are in the body? What determines how serious the infection will be? Give examples of organisms which cause diseases?

    Group 3 (Akesa, Rebecca, Maggie, Piliaseta, Teariki)


    Differentiate between infection and cross-infection. Describe ways of prevention of infection in a hospital environment. What is isolation technique? Demonstrate proper hand hygiene technique.

    Group 4 (Sian, Imran, Maria, Vasiti, Ashna)


    What is meant by CSSD? What is sterilization? List 4 common methods of sterilization.

    List 4 factors that are important while choosing the type of sterilization that is to be applied. What is an Autoclave and how does it work?

    Due: Wednesday, 14th September, 2010. Duration: 10 minutes / group i.e. an average of 10 slides / group Assessment: A short quiz (CA) on this same topic will follow after the presentation *Note that there will NOT be any lecture on Monday, 12th of September. Please use this time to finalize your PowerPoint presentation. We will have a 2 hour session on 14th September instead.
