ThebooktellsofhowInGenfindsawaytoclonepaleoDNAandcreatesanamusement parkwithrealdinosaurs.TheparkisJurassicPark,controlledbyJohnHammondwho couldneverimaginehowthisadvanceinsciencecouldturnoutbesomuchlikea nightmare AlanGrantandhisstudentEllieSattlerarebothpaleontologistsdiggingonasitein Montana.Theyareinterruptedbyacallinvitingthemtovisitanewparklocatedonthe islandIslaNublarnearCostaRica.SobothAlanandEllieboardtheflightthenextday, accompaniedbyamathematiciannamedIanMalcolm,alawyernamedGennaro,and JohnHammondhimself.MalcolmdiscusseshisChaosTheoryinwhichthe unpredictablehappens.Hetellsthemthattheparkwillnevergoasplannedbecause thepeoplearenotpreparedfortheunpredictable. Whentheyarriveatthepark,theyseethedinosaurs.Oh,howbeautifultheywere! TheymovedlikebirdsjustasGranthadthought.Theyweresolargeandsopeaceful looking;itwasamazing.Andthiswastherealthing. Nedryhadalreadytakenoffwiththeeggs.Hewasgoingtoberich!Andnowhe wouldn'thavetoputupwithanyoneatthecontrolroom.Hecouldjusttakeoffhe thought.Butnowhewasatadeadendandhecouldnotgetoverthebrickwallthatwas there.Sohestartedtowalkback.Thenheheardanoise.ItwastheCompys! Thekidsfoundthattheywereinthedarkkitchenalonenoteventhechefwasthere. Anyway,theywentintothefreezertofindsomethingtoeat.Thentheyheardanoise.It wasaRaptor!Thekidsranoutofthekitchenandintothesafetyofthecontrolroom. Theretheyfoundthecomputersthatcontrolledthepowerandthecameras.Andthey wereon!Thepowerwasn'toutatall!Everythingmustofjustbeenturnedoff.Innotime, Timhadfiguredoutthebuttonsandturnedthepowerbackon.Butwhataboutthe Raptors? Afterthepowerwasonagain,Grantdrovebacktothelodge.Thenhesawthatthe Raptorshadgottenintothecafeteriaandkilledaguardatthedesk.Hetooktheguard's identificationcardandranitthroughthelockonthedoor.Gennarohadbeentraveling withGrantsincehewasfoundinthecontrolroom. laboratory.Then,GrantledtheRaptorsintothehatchingroom,wherealloftheeggshad rottedwhenthepowerwasoff.GrantthrewtheeggsattheRaptors,whoofcourseatethe eggsanddiedfromsometypeofpoisoning. Thenextday,MuldoonandArnold,whoworkedatthecontrolroomhadmovedall theanimalsbackintheirfencesandHammondhadcontactedthemilitaryandtoldthem totakeallofthesurvivorsbacktoPuntarenas,wheretheywouldbesafeuntiltheycould flybacktoAmerica.ButHammondwantedtogooutsideonelasttimebeforehehadto leave.TimandLexwerestillplayingwiththecomputerandfoundabuttontomake dinosaurnoises.TheypushedtheonemarkedTrex.Hammondhadfelldownthehill afterhehadranawayfromthesound,becausehewasafraiditwastherealTrex.He waskilledbyaCompy,likeNedry. Thesurvivorssteppedontothehelicopterwhicharrivedthenextday.Theyhad foundoutthatNedry,Hammond,andMalcolmhaddied.Theyweretakenbackto Puntarenas.TheParkwastoredownandalltheanimalswerekilledsupposedly.
