Style Exercise Three: Put Statements in Positive Form In The Elements of Style, Strunk and White recommend that

writers put statements in positive form because consciously or unconsciously, the reader is dissatisfied with being told with is not; the reader wishes to be told what is. They advise writers to express even negative ideas in positive form by choosing different word. They also recommend that writers use definitive rather than conditional statements unless there is real doubt. Using the advice from The Elements of Style, rewrite the following sentences. 1. I did not have much confidence in the article because the writer did not include citations of his sources.

2. Although Anna Quindlens article does not discuss the Dont Ask, Dont Tell policy, it may be relevant to the ongoing debate on that law.

3. I did not remember that class was in the library, so I was not in class on Wednesday.

4. Unlike Moby Dick, scholars have not paid much attention to Melvilles shorter fiction.

5. Wendell Barry could be considered an authority on the theory and practice of alternative farming methods.
