FUNCTION SUBJECT MATTER STYLE OR METHOD MEDIUM ELEMENTS ORGANIZATION JUDGMENT

In art, it is always better to start exploring the how of it then the what is it. For a work of art must be encountered in itself, not as a statement of a philosophy, or an answer to a question. Art is not only about something.

First of all, it is something. A work or art is not a text or a commentary of the world. It is a being-in-the-world; it is as real as human existence.

Art cannot be separated from life. It is the expression of the greatest need of which life is capable, and we value art not because of the skilled product, but because of its revelation of a life's experience.
Robert Henri (1865 - 1929) U.S. painter and teacher
